What Is Laser Tattoo Removal?
As tattoos have become more popular, so too has laser tattoo removal for tattoos that become regrettable, do not age well, or simply aren’t done well. What was once considered to be a permanent fixture in the skin can now be removed fairly simply with the use of advanced laser technology like the Spectra laser.
In simple terms, the laser targets the particles of the tattoo’s ink and breaks them down so they can be eliminated safely by the body. The majority of tattoos can be removed without any problem; however, some tattoos, depending on the color of the ink, the type of ink, and the depth of the pigments, may be hard to remove.
How Much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost in Birmingham, MI?
The cost of laser tattoo removal at Clarkston Dermatology depends on many factors including the size of the tattoo, the number of colors, and how many sessions are necessary to achieve the desired results. At Clarkston Dermatology, we strive to make tattoo removal as easy as possible with financing available through CareCredit®. You can find out your individual cost for treatment by contacting us for a free consultation to review your tailored treatment plan and cost.
How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
With the use of the Lutronic Spectra laser, a laser specially designed for the purpose of tattoo removal and the best one available today, your provider will direct the laser at the tattoo. When the light from the laser hits the pigment of the tattoo, it gets absorbed by the pigment which heats up and breaks apart. Essentially, the pulse from the laser travels so fast (6 billionths of a second) that the energy causes the pigment to shatter on impact.
No other laser available today can break down ink pigment as effectively as the Lutronic Spectra can. Once the ink has been broken down, the body then flushes the ink away over the following days and weeks.
How Many Sessions Do I Need for Tattoo Removal?
The number of laser tattoo removal sessions you will need depends on the depth of the tattoo ink, the number of colors in the tattoo, and the tattoo’s size and shape. During your initial consultation, we will assess your tattoo and give you an idea of the number of sessions you will need. With each session, you will see your tattoo slowly fading away until there will be no pigment remaining.
Ultimately our bodies each have their own healing speeds, so the time between each session will vary from person to person. Generally speaking, around four to 12 weeks is necessary between sessions.
What Is Tattoo Removal Recovery Like?
There are several side effects of the tattoo removal process that patients can expect when recovering, such as redness, bruising, tenderness, blistering, scabbing, and swelling, along with hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. All of these will be temporary and should subside after around a day or two to a week at most.
If hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation occur, this will usually be due to the laser treatment skewing the melanin production of the body. Any hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation should only be temporary and will subside in a relatively short amount of time.
